We retract the caliper piston, electronically where an electric parking brake is fitted, inspect discs and caliper slides, fit the new pads, reset the parking brake and road test the vehicle.
Rear brake pads last longer than the fronts, but they still wear out, and on many modern cars the rears do more work than they used to because of electronic brake distribution. A squeal from the back of the car, a handbrake that needs more travel, or uneven braking are the usual signs.
Rear pads are often neglected because the fronts get replaced more often, and worn rears quietly increase stopping distances and put more load on the front brakes. Replacing them at your home or office means no workshop trip and no waiting.
Many modern vehicles have an electric parking brake built into the rear calipers, which has to be retracted electronically before the pads can be changed and reset afterwards. Our mechanics carry the equipment to do that properly rather than forcing the piston.
Worn rears quietly lengthen stopping distances and throw more load onto the front brakes. On most cars the parking brake works through the rear brakes too.
