A safety check is the cheapest thing on this page and the one most likely to find something before it strands you.
Brakes, tyres, fluids, lights, belts and suspension, looked at properly by a qualified mechanic in your own driveway.

One price regardless of what you drive. Anything the check finds is quoted separately and only done if you say so.
What a breakdown costs when it happens far from home
The check itself is a flat fee. What it is protecting you against is the same repair done at the roadside, on a holiday weekend, at whatever the nearest workshop charges. Our prices for three things a check routinely catches early:
When to book one
Four moments where a check earns its money.
The classic one. Brakes, tyres, coolant and belts looked at before you are four hundred kilometres from anyone who can help.
A check tells you what actually needs doing and what can wait, so you spend on the right thing rather than the whole list.
If it was not inspected before you paid, this is the next best moment. More on this.
No fault code, no warning light, just a feeling. A check often names it, and if it needs a full diagnostic we say so.
Not sure which one yours is?
Tell us what the car is doing, in your own words. A mechanic reads it and calls you back within the hour. You do not need to know what is wrong, that is what we are for.

What gets checked
The kit that comes with the mechanic
A mobile mechanic is only as good as what is in the van.
Thickness and run out measured against the manufacturer’s minimum, at all four corners, so what you are told is a number.
A module scan included, so a fault stored quietly without a warning light still shows up.
Tested under real load, which is the only way to catch a battery that will fail on the first cold morning of the trip.
Brake and tyre temperatures after a short road test reveal a dragging caliper or a binding bearing.
A safety check tells you what the car needs. Anything found is quoted separately and you decide what to do about it. Nothing is replaced on the day without you agreeing to it first.
What you get for the money
What has failed, why, and what the repair involves. If the repair is ours you get the quote before anything is touched, and the inspection is not charged twice.

Questions we get asked
What is the difference between this and a service?
A service replaces things on a schedule, oil, filters and so on. A safety check inspects and measures, and tells you what actually needs attention. It is much cheaper, and it is the right call when you want to know where you stand.
Will you try to sell me work?
You get a list of what we found, with our prices against each item, and you decide. Plenty of checks end with us telling someone the car is fine and that nothing needs doing.
Is it a roadworthy certificate?
No. A roadworthy is a formal test at an accredited testing station for licensing purposes. This is a mechanic telling you honestly what condition the car is in, which is a different and usually more useful thing.
What does it cost?
R569, flat, regardless of the car. We come to your home or office. Anything the check finds is quoted separately and only done if you say so.
