Squealing, grinding or a shudder under braking? Our qualified mechanics replace pads, discs, calipers and brake fluid wherever your car is parked.
An ABS light means one wheel speed sensor has stopped reporting. The brakes work, but the anti-lock system is off.
A brake pedal that has become very hard to push, often with a hiss behind it, points to a failed brake booster.
A seized caliper pulls the car to one side, cooks one pad and overheats the disc. A leaking one loses pedal pressure.
Skimming machines the disc surface flat again to remove shudder, when the disc still has thickness to spare.
Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point and makes the pedal go soft when you need it most.
A pedal that slowly sinks to the floor at a stop, with no visible leak, usually means the master cylinder seals are bypassing.
Drum brakes are enclosed, so worn shoes stay invisible until the handbrake pulls up too far or the rear starts scraping.
If the steering shudders under braking, the discs are uneven. New pads on worn discs will not cure it.
Squealing, grinding or a longer pedal travel means the front pads are worn. They do most of the stopping, so they wear first.
A handbrake that pulls up almost to its limit, or holds poorly on a slope, usually has a stretched or seized cable.
Rear discs usually corrode rather than wear, especially on cars doing short trips or standing for long periods.
Rear pads last longer than fronts, but a handbrake needing more travel or a squeal from the back means they are due.
