So… Why does my Ford Ecoboost say low oil pressure?
When your Ford Ecoboost says the oil pressure is low, it means that the oil is not circulating in the engine and by so doing not lubricating the parts needed to be lubricated. When this happens you need to bear in mind that although the car is moving, the starvation of the oil will lead to metal to metal friction that can cause catastrophic failure and costing you 10’s of thousands of rands.
What causes the oil pressure light to come on?
Our experience and our AI tool has picked up a common problem on all the cars that we worked on. Please note that there are multiple causes, however we will only deal with the most common ones.
- Blocked oil strainer. The oil strainer could be blocked by many things, including foreign debris in the oil sump. However the most common cause is a failing cambelt. A failing cambelt/timing belt starts to deposit rubber debris in the lubrication systems causing blockage of the oil pick/strainer.
- Failing oil pump
- Failing oil pressure sensor or wiring
Is It Safe To Drive With The Oil Pressure Warning Light On?
Well, nothing will happen to you peer se, however your cars engine may seize due to oil starvation and a replacement engine can cost well over R40 000. When the oil light illuminates, it is best to get it checked out as soon as possible by qualified mechanics that come to you :).
How Much Does It cost To Fix.
In most instances you will need to replace the cambelt/timing belt, oil pump, minor service oil pump drive belt. This can cost between R5 000 and R15 000 depending on how quickly it was picked up, Contact us for a comprehensive diagnostics and quote.
